Daldal Episode 9 – Review!

Ohkay so, as the episodes of this drama are progressing, they are showcasing the negativity of another level which by the way isn’t something alien to human beings. The story of this drama revolves around how selfish people can get and how blinded their agendas can make them.

Hira lost her father but unfortunately, even she knew what this news would do to her and her marital life. It was heart wrenching to see that in stead of mourning the loss of her father, Hira was far more concerned about Shuja’s reaction and his heart break because he was so excited to go to London. Hira has slowly and steadily understood what her husband is made of that is why despite being emotionally shattered, she was distracted and wasn’t concentrating much on her mother or the news of her father’s death!

Kamran got a job and on the other hand Saniya’s parents are pushing their limits to make Saniya’s in laws happy by meeting all their demands. Saniya has made it clear that she is not into the idea of getting married & even her brother is not too happy with Saniya’s in-laws-to-be but he can not say much because his parents are not keen on knowing what Saniya wants or who she wants to be with. Even though Kamran has finally bagged a job but not sure if he will be able to convince Saniya’s parents since they themselves are pretty materialistic and everyone knows the financial condition of Kamran’s family!

Saadat tried to knock some sense into Shuja & told him to get back to work because his dream of leaving for London couldn’t be materialized. Now that the dream of Shuja settling in London was pretty much over, Sakina grew cold towards Hira, to an extent that she didn’t even care that she was carrying a baby. Hira has done everything to please Shuja & his family, she has literally compromised everything to fit in their family but still, she doesn’t get treated with respect because both Shuja & his mother are on the same page & are now seeing her as a reason behind Shuja’s failure.

I must say, this drama is a decent watch but it still lacks that flavor to attract the viewership. Zahid Ahmed once again overacted in this episode, so much so that I didn’t mind skipping a few of his scenes. Yes, Zahid is portraying frustrations of a man who wants to give luxuries to his family but then, there was no need to overdo this character because he is annoying. Armeena Rana Khan has undoubtedly portrayed Hira’s character to perfection & I am definitely impressed. The preview of the next episode promised a lot more negativity & I really want to see how far both Shuja & Sakina can go. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Daldal.

Khamoshi Episode 2 Review- Exploitation At Its Peak!

The pace with which this drama is progressing is commendable. Two episodes down and the story has progressed at a constant speed bringing on the original theme of the play. The director has really done a good job of not wasting any more time on showing the rift between Atif and Sabir or the financial miseries he introduced at the very start. Two new characters were introduced in this episode and they are the people Arsala was shown working for in the promos. He is Arsala’s distant uncle who was in a desperate need of house help since no one in Karachi can tolerate his wife’s tantrums.

Tauqeer Nasir translated the greediness of Sabir perfectly on screen today. The way his eyes light up by having just a glance at 30 thousand rupees showed his mentality. Sabir knows his daughter is not there just to help her bechari chachibut is hired as a maid. His sudden exhaustion with factory’s work and the way whole family starts having halwa puri showed how people in our society exploit the ones who do not complain. Naima is a true evil and the way her mother always refers to her as an inexperienced bacchi is annoying. Shehnaz cares for Arsala but this episode showed how weak and unfair she really is.  While one of her daughters is far away, working day and night to put food on their tables; the other one is planning to buy clothes from that money and Shehnaz could not even make her help with household chores. Arsala’s brother is the only character who loves her but he has no say in anything since he is a child.

Amber Khan is playing the beemar chachi Haseena. Her acting was a bit over the top. It looks like she was trying too hard to bring out that evil factor in her voice, though her styling and overall persona showed perfectly well how difficult a woman she is. Atif knows his engagement is broken but to be honest he is not really trying to get Arsala back. He has adopted the easy way of being hungry and laying in bed. His mother is also not making any efforts and seems like a person who doesn’t really care whether his son gets married to her niece or not.

Zara Noor Abbas translated the theme of the show brilliantly on screen. Her Khamoshi towards all the exploitation really portrays what happens to such people in our society who do not fight back and trust too much. She loves her family and trusts her sister who is visibly selfish. Khamoshi shows how the society likes to crush people who care too much and exploit them for their own gains. Iqra Aziz is playing the evil character better than her normal bechari ones. The preview of next episode shows how Arsala’s father will cut her off from the whole family and will make her their personal ATM. Let’s see what happens next and how will they introduce Bilal Khan in the whole scene.

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 22 – Disappointing!

Ohkay so, I never ever ever thought that Alif Allah Aur Insaan would come at such a stage where it would lose its charm. I can’t believe that a drama that was so engaging has now turned out to be a perfect case of stretching & dragging & the sad part is, the drama-makers have left no stone unturned in making it obvious that yes, they are dragging this drama to grab last bit of the rating they can while it lasts. I remember saying that praising Hum TV drama is like giving them a ticket to drag it & they proved me right once again, first Yeh Raha Dil & now Alif Allah Aur Insaan. It is actually quite unfortunate that such good dramas end up getting ruined because the producers chose not to end them at the right time. I always knew that the pace of the drama would slow down at some stage but I never expected that everything will go all over the place, clearly showing that things have been stretched way beyond!

I still find it odd that Shahzeb hasn’t recognized Basit because he clearly met him the day Nazneen went to see him & was also the in-charge of their engagement. I don’t really know what difference it would’ve made if they had changed the scenario & had shown that Shahzeb knew Basit was Nazneen’s servant’s son. Even though Nazneen’s reaction when she saw Basit was realistic but not sure why Basit seemed so shocked, as if he wasn’t expecting her to be around? Out of all the tracks, I still am interested to find out how this one is going to unfold as there’s still something left to be seen!

I really had a hard time watching Reena & Nawazish Ali’s scenes tonight because the chemistry between Ushna Shah & Farhan Ali Agha was cringe-worthy, like even when they were trying to show that Nawazish Ali was getting jealous of Hassan, I found it quite odd. Also, the acting of both Ushna & Farhan in their scenes together was so weak that I couldn’t believe I was watching the sameUshna Shah who blew us all away with her portrayal as both Rani & Reena in the initial stages of the drama. This entire track was again a filler & was used to stretch because I don’t see a reason why they couldn’t wrap it up in previous episodes? Reena ignored Nawazish & spent some time with Hassan, Nawazish became insecure & did what Reena wanted, which was a proposal for marriage. This is going to mark Reena’s downfall because she really isn’t getting the crux of the situation & she is unable to see that for Nawazish she is just a flavor of the month!

Now talking about the most unconvincing & unneeded track of the entire drama; the budding romance between Shaheer & Zimal, who both qualify as a perfect couple for any Punjabi Gandasa Movie as there’s nothing about them both or any other character in this track that speaks ‘art student’ to me. I know I am not looking for stereotypes but then I don’t think I am being picky in judging their appearance & overall personalities as when the drama began, we all saw how much attention was paid on every actor to give their respective characters the personality it required. If we recall every single character like Nazneen, Shahzeb, Basit, Rani, Nigar Begum, Shammo, Rani’s family members, each one of them had such perfect personalities that helped in portraying their characters to perfection, so when it comes to Shaheer, Arsalan, Zimal they are a complete misfit for these roles!

Talking about the proposal & Zimal’s reaction to it & later the tun tuni music which was used to suggest there was something magical going on between them, everything was awkward because all this while I kept on waiting to hear a single dialogue from Zimal where she would talk about being engaged but she didn’t? Seriously is she giving an edge to Shaheer & what for? Also, I am not really buying that Shaheer or any other friend doesn’t know about her engagement because when you get engaged, your old school friends & new college friends are the first few people to know about it. There’s absolutely nothing about this track or its character or even actors that’s piquing my interest & I am not sure if it will change in the episodes to come either!

I must say this episode came as a huge disappointment because I for once didn’t feel I was watching  a drama which I used to look forward to eagerly. They have actually dragged it & it is quite obvious because that’s when the drama loses its charm & the story loses its purpose. For the first time, I am unable to see the purpose of the story because now it seems all over the place & for the first time, the perspective of the writer is unclear. I must say, even though they have quite nicely portrayed that Reena could never become Nigar Begum, like no matter how hard she tried, she could never take her place, that being said, I must say for the first time I was quite disappointed in Ushna Shah’s portrayal as Reena Begum because her acting was not upto the mark. When it came to Sana Fakhar, she portrayed the character of a courtesan quite gracefully but Ushna Shah has failed to do that because her expressions were a bit too suggestive & she took it a bit too far. Also, I wish they had maintained that ethnic, traditional persona of Reena because now she looks unrealistically urbane & a bit too polished, considering she is someone who came from the slums & was unlettered.

At the moment, I think the only thing worth watching this drama for is Nazneen, Shahzeb & Basit’s track because apart from that, even Reena’s track has lost its charm as it is quite predictable what is going to happen to her & then there’s Zimal Shaheer track which is so boring that it makes me yawn. Also, I am not sure who thought introducing Arsalan’s character & giving him a nerd look would be a good idea, not to forget his killer jokes. Arsalan reminds me of those back-benchers who are completely isolated from the cool groups of the class & they try really hard using their weird sense of humor to get some attention & when they don’t they end up laughing at their own jokes to feel validated about their existence, in short, I roll my eyes & raise my eyebrows every-time Arsalan is on screen because he fails to make me laugh. Also, I think Hum TV has hired the actor playing the role of Hassan to drag the dramas, ironically he was playing the role of Hassan in Yeh Raha Dil & ended up dragging that drama & similarly in Alif Allah Aur Insaan, once again he was seen as Hassan & acted out a few filler scenes!?! Talk about monotony! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei Episode 21 Review – Must-Watch!

This had to be one of the best episodes of MTSNH so far; the story moved forward at a rapid pace and all these developments were unexpected. Ami begum’s realization and Gulrez’s wisdom came as a complete surprise and for the first time these two characters had to be the best part of an entire episode. Ami Begum’s scenes were funny as well (and this time in a good way!). The way she asked her daughter to reassure her that she wasn’t such a bad person and later on her use of English language was hilarious! It was great watching her realize her mistake and making a decision which was going to hurt Gulrez but which was definitely better than the one she had taken before. Saman Ansari has always played an important role in all the dramas she has ever been part of therefore it was also a pleasant surprise watching Mehrunissa’s character which seemed unimportant few weeks back, playing a major role in making Ami Begum’s reflect upon her behaviour and actions.

Gulrez and Maheen’s conversation was the highlight of tonight’s episode mainly because of the fact that Gulrez turned out to be much more wise than everyone gave him credit for. Gulrez has always been shown as a sensitive person therefore watching him take such a bold step which was surely going to break his heart was very touching. Also, watching Maheen believing what he said instantly was a refreshing change since Maheen usually does not get convinced so easily.Ayeza Khan was phenomenal in this particular scene, the change in her expressions when Gulrez told her the reason why Waqar was all of a sudden saying something entirely different made this scene more impactful. Gulrez’s suggestion that Maheen’s baraat should go on his foxy was another brilliant addition to this scene. This was the most important scene because it had a major development to its credit and it was handled faultlessly.

Jia is investing all her time and energy into taking revenge from Maheen for what her father did. She managed to make Waqar think that Maheen might be playing games with him. Before his conversation with Jia, he was fully convinced that Maheen loved her. Jia has done all her homework and now when she shows Waqar the diary he will walk away from this marriage and I guess it is easy to tell now why everyone hated him so much. It still remains to be seen what happened to Gulrez. Will he die in an accident too just like his parents?

For the first time I enjoyed watching all the mind games which the characters played with one another because they are headed towards a definite direction. This episode also had some impressive dialogues which explained Ami Begum and Gulrez’s state of mind in particular. Although the story can pretty much be summed up as kon bane ga Maheen ka shauhar but even then the intricate relationship of all these characters with each other and also the fact that the drama is headed towards an interesting finale makes it a must-watch at this point at least. There are dramas which get slow towards the end and test your patience and then there are those like Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei which test your patience for weeks but get really interesting towards the end!! Looking forward to the next episode because the promo looked enticing!
